What Is Ips Display

IPS (In‑Plane Switching) is a lcd panel technology, which was developed by Hitachi in 1995, also known as hard screen.


Its core working principle is to rotate liquid crystal molecules parallel to the screen plane, rather than vertically aligning and twisting them as in TN panels. This solves the problems of narrow viewing angles and color shift associated with traditional LCDs.


How Does IPS Display Work?

Electrodes are placed on the same side substrate, creating a horizontal electric field that drives liquid crystal molecules to twist parallel to the screen within the plane, rather than swinging vertically.


When no voltage is applied, the liquid crystals are aligned parallel and opaque (pure black); when energized, the molecules rotate to control light transmission, enabling image display.


The advantage of this structure is more uniform light refraction at oblique viewing angles, significantly reducing issues such as color shift and brightness degradation.
